IFACS offers a full consultancy service that includes advice on environmental surveys, technical art history research and the provision of advice on after-care and the display of artworks. We can also facilitate full technical analysis of paint and media samples in support of conservation projects.
In particular, our studio has a long history of efficiently managing large-scale projects, working closely with specialist couriers and engineers, and engaging in strategic discussions with scientists, curators and wider heritage managers.
Our conservators are fully qualified to advise on the provision of environmental monitoring and control, packing, courier transport and display of works of art, and preparation of works of art for loan. In addition, we have collaborated on numerous projects involving the preparation and installation of a large-scale works within historic buildings and gallery spaces.
IFACS staff is adept at undertaking condition surveys and paint investigation to establish the extent and nature of existing original painted schemes that are sometimes buried beneath numerous layers of redecoration. This also includes the provision of a suggested programme of conservation and reconstruction of original schemes. Conservation principles underpin the design methodology proposals, original surfaces are preserved as far as possible, and interiors restored to their original authentic designs.
Our conservators are able to access documentary and technological resources in order to undertake technical art history research on any paintings being treated. Such research provides contextual information and supplements knowledge, which is critical when considering the appropriate treatment procedure for an individual artwork. It may also contribute to both the aesthetic and material value of the work, and IFACS facilitates sourcing historic data on artists and the movement of pieces of art.
